Heart-wrenching scene. You can see in Rick’s expression that Daryl’s leaving is a heavy psychological blow on his mind as it prepares us to his “mental” fury to come.

And at the same time, you can see Daryl’s expression of deepest regret and uncertainty as to whether he has made the right choice or not.

Merle in my opinion is not just merely satisfied with having his brother back but he seems more gloating over seeing Rick’s being defeated on the grounds of blood lines over friendship. You can see the selfishness in that. I think.
